I am a dedicated and enthusiastic professional with a strong foundation in microbiology and biotechnology. With a bachelor's degree in Applied Biology and a master's degree in Applications of Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology, I have honed my skills in experimental techniques, molecular biology, and microbial interactions. My passion for scientific research has led me to engage in diverse projects, from exploring synergies between bacteria and fungi for plant growth during my undergraduate studies, to my recent involvement in innovative research with the European Space Agency and German Aerospace Center. Through these experiences, I have developed analytical problem-solving abilities, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to sustainable innovation. I am eager to contribute my expertise to a dynamic research environment and to continue my journey of discovery and advancement in the field of microbiology and biotechnology.

My work experience is rooted in the realm of microbiology and biotechnology, reflecting my passion for scientific exploration and innovation. During my time at the University of Minho, I was a member of the Soil Microbiology Team, where I monitored fungal growth in response to bacterial production of secondary metabolites. This experience provided me with valuable insights into molecular techniques, microbiological processes, and biotechnological methodologies. Subsequently, my engagement with the Aerospace Microbiology team at the German Aerospace Center in Cologne allowed me to delve into cutting-edge research. I led experiments focused on the mobilization of metals from lunar regolith using filamentous fungus, honing my skills in both solid and liquid cultures, as well as analytical methods for detecting secondary metabolites and metals. This work culminated in the submission of a manuscript to Nature Scientific Reports. Currently, as a guest scientist within the same team, I am delving into co-cultures of filamentous fungus and bacteria, enriching my understanding of complex microbial interactions. My journey thus far has not only solidified my scientific acumen but also cultivated an unwavering commitment to contributing to advancements in microbiology and biotechnology.

My academic journey has been a testament to my dedication to scientific exploration and inquiry. At the University of Porto, I pursued a Master's Program in Applications of Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology, a pursuit that allowed me to delve deep into the fascinating world of microbiology and biotechnology. My master's thesis, "Fungal Biomining of Lunar Regolith Simulant EAC-1A," showcased my ability to blend innovative thinking with practical research. Working in collaboration with the European Space Agency and the German Aerospace Center, I focused on harnessing the metabolic activities of filamentous fungi to extract metals from lunar regolith. This research illuminated my path with hands-on experience in both solid and liquid cultures, as well as analytical techniques like metabolite analysis and metal detection. This journey culminated in the preparation and submission of a manuscript to Nature Scientific Reports, reflecting my commitment to contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge. My academic pursuits have not only equipped me with a strong theoretical foundation but have also instilled in me a profound appreciation for the intricate complexities of microbiological systems and their applications in diverse fields.
