Soraya Peixoto

My professional career started in Tourism and Hospitality, which led me to be employed by US Embassy in Maputo as Diplomatic Travel assistant.

Working for the United States government and serving the commercial sector in Brazil later sparked my interest in the business world, so I started my bachelor’s degree in economics. However, half way through, I realized that accounting was not my strong side but that serving and working with people is. Changing my degree to education seemed the natural choice, additionally, completing my two-year International Montessori diploma in London.  

Completing my Bachelor's degree required practical work and this led me to work at different International schools in Indonesia, South Africa and Europe. My best quality is engaging with people and meeting their needs. I love babies, toddlers and young children and believe that their voice should be heard and that nurture plays a big role in the development of the human being. Heading up the two Montessori schools helped me to redefine my natural aptitude for performing a wide range of training and development activities. It also gave me the experience to align business strategy objectives, with minimum educational resource expenditure, to ensure the success of the schools.

In 2003, I was given the role of Curriculum Coordinator and teaching English to Middle school learners in Mexico. With team effort we successfully implemented a child centered curriculum that showed performance improvement by year end. This inspired me to start my Master’s degree in higher education. In 2015, I was employed as third grade teacher at an International school in The Bahamas, following the IB curriculum. This curriculum resonated with my beliefs in student directed education, following lines of inquiry and a conceptual approach to teaching and learning.

My last professional experience as Head of Learning and Development, sparked my interest in using my educational experience in the business industry. As a seasoned professional, I am proactive, energetic, curious and always try to see opportunities to better myself and the work that I am doing with my colleagues.
