ROLE SUMMARY:

  • King's College School, Cascais is one of the recent additions to the Inspired Group. The College is currently open to Year 9 and will be opening Year 10 next year. Pupils primarily study the Cambridge International curriculum but will be offering IGCSEs from other examination boards as well. When Year 12 opens in September 2026, the school will be running the International Baccalaureate.
  • The College has fast established a reputation for excellence in Portugal and is set to become one of the most highly prized education schools not only in Portugal but beyond. Its location in one of the most prized districts in Portugal together with its unrivalled facilities and outstanding staff has led to it's remarkable growth in its student roll to 704 students this year (a growth of 55% from the previous year).
  • The College will launch its new boarding provision in 2024. Facilities include provision for up to 50 pupils, all situated within the College walls on a campus above the main secondary building with stunning views of the Sintra mountains and the Atlantic coast. Boarders and boarding staff will have access to the school facilities including a 25m swimming pool, tennis and padel courts, gyms, basketball courts, dance and music facilities and 5G astroturf for multiple sports including football and rugby.
  • This is an exciting time to join the team as we are designing our growth roadmap and new staff will be able to actively participate in this project.
  • King's College School, Cascais is looking to appoint a wellqualified, enthusiastic and highly motivated Founding Head of Boarding. This post will be for April 2024 or earlier.
  • The Head of Boarding will be responsible for the pastoral care and development of all the boarding pupil population. They will be supported by at least two resident House Staff who work very closely with the Head of Boarding as well as housekeepers and other auxiliary staff.
  • At maximum capacity, the boarding facilities at King's College School, Cascais can support up to fifty boarders. As AY will be the first year that the school has offered boarding, we will expect the number of boarders to grow over time.
  • During the working day, boarders are expected to fully integrate with the rest of their peers in the main part of the school and therefore it is not expected that they be in their rooms. The boarding facilities act as 'home from home' for the boarders and in this respect, they are the base that students return to at the end of the working day.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Head of Boarding will report to the Executive Head.

They should know the pupils and their families well, understand the context which shapes their engagement with school, and the ways that they interact with their peers. Ultimately, the Head of Boarding must ensure that every pupil develops his social and academic potential to the fullest extent.
  • The Head of Boarding is not expected to have a teaching role initially, but, they may be asked to assist with cover on occasion. It is expected that the boarding staff will be involved in the operational management of the school and the Head of Boarding will be part of the senior leadership team.
