Sustainability Specialist

Mission:
A core part of Galps strategy is a belief in an accelerated energy transition.

To thrive through that energy transition, it will be critical for Galp to have Sustainability at the core of its performance and portfolio transformation.

At the same time, expectations, and regulatory requirements for transparency of companies' sustainability performance is only increasing - we want to stay ahead of the curve and as such, are strengthening our ESG capability.

The Sustainability Specialist will play a central role in both advising on & supporting the implementation of ESG best practices and safeguards across Galp, especially regarding Human Rights matters.

The sustainability specialist will work closely with key departments, such as Corporate Procurement, People, CSR and Legal&Compliance, and engage with all the Business Units across Galp, actively guiding and supporting them in implementing the improvement plan related with non-financial information, and subsequent activities to comply with external mandatory requirements (e.g Corporate sustainability due diligence directive).

What you'll do

Support the definition and roll out of Galp's sustainability roadmap;
Reflect human rights policy in operational policies and procedures:
Define and implement a human rights due diligence process, to identify related actual or potential adverse impacts of the company's own operations, its subsidiaries, and its value chain (direct and indirect established business relationships) over the short, medium, and long term;
In light of the severity and likelihood of different impacts, define the appropriate measures to prevent, mitigate or bring to an end those actual or potential impacts. Also, design, develop, and implement programmes and activities related to the promotion and protection of human rights in Galp's own operations, its subsidiaries, and its value chain;
Establish and maintain a human rights operating level grievance mechanisms;
Provide the necessary training for personnel in relevant business functions;
Monitor the effectiveness of the human rights related policy, procedures and measures, supervising field verification work through periodic visits;
Write a variety of internal and external performance reports, communications, briefings, statements, etc., on human rights performance and progress;
Be a key stakeholder within the company for human rights issues, bringing specialized knowledge to the organization and developing information to support the decisionmaking process;
Promote a collaborative approach (internal and external stakeholders) and enable the compliance of the sustainability demands with focus on human rights within the BU/project's time and budget;
Research and monitor regulation, trends, best practices, and main developments in the market regarding sustainability challenges and opportunities for existing and new projects, issue recommendations and support in its implementation;
Support external and internal communication on nonfinancial information (NFI), ensuring that the internal controls are being properly applied;
Ensure active participation in national and international working groups on sustainability/human rights.

What you'll need

Master's degree preferred in Social Sciences, Social Management, Law, External Affairs, or similar;
Consultancy experience, and legal and practical knowledge of international human rights law are a plus;
10+ years of relevant work experience;
Comfortable presenting and explaining emerging topics to both senior management and frontline teams;
Experience in project and stakeholder's management;
Ability to identify and implement improvement initiatives, within the internal projects to shape Galp's portfolio;
Technical aptitude, critical thinking abilities, curious, good communication and interpersonal skills, and adaptability;
Excellent organization, time management, problemsolving skills and attention to detail;
Good team player attitude;
Good written and spoken English.
